SAQA Urban Textures fabric collection
Concept
Andover Fabrics (formerly Concord) will print and market a collection of cotton fabrics branded with the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) name and logo – the SAQA Urban Textures fabric collection. A percentage of sales of the collection fabrics will go to support SAQA in our 25th Anniversary Year – 2014!
For SAQA Urban Textures, find your inspiration in the textures of city streets, the graphics of signs and maps, distressed surfaces and lights reflecting off asphalt. Deconstructed screen prints, splattered and layered paint, and digital manipulated images are all possible techniques. Use any artistic medium that expresses this theme.
The SAQA Urban Textures fabric collection will consist of six to eight designs that will be printed in multiple colorways. The goal for this project is to create designs that could become contemporary classics and be stocked by quilt shops and fabric stores around the world.
Andover will begin marketing the SAQA Urban Textures fabric collection at Fall Quilt Market 2013. The submitted designs for this fabric collection should include designs that can be used as textures, backgrounds, and blenders. Use your imagination to create whatever graphic or multi-hued design that might inspire others to collect and purchase these designs.
Submitted designs will be curated by Luana Rubin, President of eQuilter.com and a fabric designer herself. Luana will select the designs to be curated as the SAQA Urban Textures collection. Her selections for the SAQA Urban Textures fabric collection will be made by considering the salability of the designs, consistency of style for the theme of the collection, and whether the designs have potential to be developed into a full line that can be adapted for many years.
The selected designs may be adapted by Luana and Andover Fabrics to make them suitable for printing on fabric. Finished fabrics may look somewhat different from the submitted designs due to manufacturing needs. Colors for manufacturing will be selected from the Pantone scale.
The name of the selected designers will appear on the selvedge of the fabrics. Because the selected designs will be used as the basis for a fabric line that will be sold commercially, the artist(s) whose designs are selected will be required to assign the copyright in the designs to SAQA, and to certify that the designs are the artist’s original work.
